Panama Waterfall Tour

Why not take a nature-lovers day trip to see some of the best that Panama offers? You’re already so close!
You’ll be taken by boat for about one-and-a-half hours up the river and will cross through the border into Panama. Throughout the entire trip you’ll be surrounded by nature at it’s finest: rain forests, all types of wild animals and flowers, tropical birds and lots of fish. Between the sights and the sounds, you’ll have the sensation of being in the middle of a magical dream.

Your guide will be making a stop for you to visit an indigenous house and family on the Panama side. Strangely enough, “borders” don’t exist for these people. Even though they are from different tribes and countries, they get along well together and help each other on many different levels. Just having the opportunity to experience that kind bond between cultures will inspire you to want to do the same.

Nearby you will also find a plaque with the national emblem of Panama and its name, in the event you want to take a picture to show off you were there.

After this quick stop, the trip continues on to the waterfall. Beneath the waterfall is an amazing “pool” that has been formed between rocks and earth. The water is so calm and inviting that you won’t want to leave!

But by then, you’ll most certainly be hungry. Don’t worry, after enjoying the waterfall we’ll provide you with snacks before heading back to Costa Rica.

Upon arrival back at the Bribri Cultural House, you’ll also be served up a delicious, traditional indigenous lunch before saying goodbye to your new friends.

This is an all-day tour lasting between 5 and 6 hours.

How to get there:

You will be taking the public bus from the center of town in Puerto Viejo to a nearby town called Bribri. It departs every hour on the half hour (1:30, 2:30, etc.) and lasts about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in the center of Bribri, you’ll be met by a private driver who will then take you onto the indigenous reservation on to your departure point, the Bambu Cultural Center.

What to bring:
  • Walking boots
  • Bug repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Swimsuit
  • Camera
Price per person: $60

*Please note the cost of public bus is approximately $1 per person each way and is not included in the package price. The cost of the private driver from Bribri to Bambu and back is included in the price. Upon your discretion, you may consider giving a gratuity to your guide and to the taxi driver.

**An alternative to taking the public bus is to hire a private taxi for $45 round-trip.
