While none of our projects require special skill or previous
experience, all have orientations and/or training courses to
help familiarize you with your volunteer work. If you do have
any special skills that you would like to contribute, our staff
can work with you to find a project placement that best suits
your interests.
Going on this program allowed me to see Costa Rica as a local...and I fell in love with the life there. At the end, I didn't want to come back.

The minimum volunteer time requirement for all volunteer
projects is eight hours per week. Our projects are located in or
around the Puerto Viejo area on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, in
the Central Valley and in the Pacific Northwest (Guanacaste)
area. Your accommodations will be arranged within walking
distance or a short bike or bus ride away from the project to
which you are placed.
In addition to your free, two-hour Survival Spanish class,
professional and intensive Spanish language lessons are
available for an add-on price. These classes are customized for
each student's ability level and interests, are fun and designed
to facilitate the most intensive direct learning of the Spanish
language and culture. They are also a great in helping
facilitate your communication while serving with your project.
These lessons will be scheduled around your volunteer work.
